Hunting Pheasants: Youth Mentored Pheasant Hunt

Youth Pheasant Hunt Weekend Recap – Bozeman, MT

This past weekend, a special tradition took flight just outside Bozeman, Montana, as Fowl Frontier hosted its annual Youth Pheasant Hunt at the beautiful Marx Family Farm. With participants ranging in age from 10 to 15, and the support of dedicated volunteers, the event was a huge success - one that these young hunters won’t soon forget.

Under a crisp September sky and the wide-open Montana landscape, excitement buzzed as our youth hunters gathered early Saturday morning. For many, this wasn’t just their first time at a youth hunt - it was their first time harvesting a bird. Thanks to careful guidance, safety training, and the supportive presence of our seasoned volunteers, each participant was able to experience the thrill and responsibility of ethical upland bird hunting.

The pheasants, planted thoughtfully across the Marx Family Farm fields, provided just the right amount of challenge for new hunters to develop their skills while building confidence. With every successful flush and well-placed shot, cheers and high-fives rang out across the fields. The joy of accomplishment - and the connection to the outdoors - was plain on every young face.

None of this would have been possible without the generous hospitality of the Marx family, who once again opened their land for this important opportunity, or our Fowl Frontier volunteers, who gave their time, experience, and encouragement to ensure a safe and educational outing for every participant.

At the end of the day, it wasn’t just about birds in the bag. It was about mentorship, conservation ethics, outdoor heritage, and the sense of community that upland hunting fosters. These young sportsmen and women walked away not only with their first birds, but with memories, friendships, and a newfound appreciation for Montana’s wild places.

To all who participated, volunteered, and supported the event: THANK YOU!!! You’re helping to ensure that the next generation carries on our outdoor traditions with respect, skill, and stewardship.

Until next year - happy hunting!
